I live in southern Delaware and fell in love with Smith Beach when I discovered it in 2008.

We had a wonderful stay at the Purple Cottage. Smith Beach is very relaxed and we often had it to ourselves. With 2 small kids, being able to walk across the street to the beach was a major plus. The property is just as represented on the listing and plenty big enough for our family of four. We had a very relaxing vacation!

We really enjoyed our stay at the purple cottage! The waves (or lack of) were perfect for our young children. The beach is just a few steps across the road and most of the time we had the beach to ourselves. It’s just a short drive to Cape Charles where we spent a lot of afternoons. We would definitely come back.

We booked this property looking for a quiet place away from touristy headaches. That’s is exactly what we got. It was quiet with easy access to the beach. We had sunsets like I had never seen before and great quality time with our kids.

We all really enjoyed our stay, it has a great location to make the short trips everywhere we needed to go. Yet we were far enough away the stay was very peaceful when the neighbors across the way weren’t running the party a bit late, but it was the 4th of July celebrating. So some of that was alright. I have glaucoma & the back door light was a bit bright for me so we tried only using solar landscape lights. Overall the place served it’s purpose and I think I would stay again. I really loved how the skies had a perfect view to watch the night skies, I really enjoyed the quiet to look for constellations, stars and such. I was even able to spot a meteor shower that was just happening to happen. One draw back was the lack of respect of some people for the beach areas, my family took time out to pick up quite a bit of other people’s garbage. It’s not like a hotel where everyone gets cleaned up after, so people really need to keep in mind they’ll need to clean up after theirselves. Other then being a little confused about the exact location, and the beach trash everything was great during our stay.

this was just as it was said. the beach was great and at times we were the only ones on the beach. very quiet and peaceful. beautiful sunsets and the water was where you could just walk out for a ways and still be in shallow waters. Cape Charles was very nice and we enjoyed eating at the Shanty. we will most likely be back again. Mark is really great to work with

We absolutely loved our stay. The house is just as described. The beach was ideal for our toddler, mostly because the water was shallow and calm. We loved watching the crabs (so many kinds!), fish, and birds. We spent most of our time on the beach (so close to the house!), but Cape Charles was fun to explore during the hottest part of the day. We hope to come back!
