Even before the founding of Bedford County the ancestors of the present day owners-operators were tilling the land, planting orchards, groves, vineyard; and serving the public with fruits, produce, and spirits. It was only a natural outgrowth of this legacy that this six generation farm develop a winery in 1995. It is owned and operated by Danny and Nancy Johnson with the assistance of their son Shannon and wife Donna, who live on the farm, and grandson’s, Jordon and Joshua, and with the encouragement of their son Dan who live in Seattle. You’ve probably seen Wayne Wood, distribution manager or Joshua and Christy at one of the Virginia Wine Festivals pouring Peaks of Otter Wine.
The farm is a magical venue for weddings, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains at the foot of the Peaks of Otter. An enchanted backdrop, it boasts thousands of fruit trees, grape vines, creeks, ponds and majestic views. The old family homestead, Elmo's Rest is the perfect place to start your marital journey.

In addition to the accommodations provided in an original two story farm house with modern conveniences; there is much more to the experience of being on a true working farm. Dependent upon the season you may observe cultivating, planting, and harvesting of many crops. Some you may enjoy picking for your enjoyment such as blackberries, plums, cherries, peaches and apples. You may taste and buy the jams and jellies made from farm produce and sold here on premises in our farm store. Over twenty years ago, we started making fruit wines from our crops and provide tastings and sales of more than 30 wines. You may view more than 100 animals grazing pastures and being fed and nurtured. Children of all ages enjoy feeding corn to the chickens and never tire of gathering the fresh eggs. Fishing, sitting by the firepit, grilling, relaxing under the sun covered patio are places to enjoy the company of friends and family. We also have a covered pavilion with fans and lights to sit and watch wildlife. “Come for a visit and remember for a lifetime”

This is a farm in the truest sense. Wake up and step outside with coffee to greet the goats, pigs, and donkeys just beyond the yard. Finish the evening around the fire pit, the sun setting behind the surrounding peaks. With rolling hills of orchards, fields, and forests to explore, this isn't a fancy vacation, but rather a very tranquil, and remarkably beautiful place to get away. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience, we really enjoy the beautiful view, delicious fruits, wine tasting. The owners are so friendly, nice and sweet, offered us cage free organic eggs and free wine tasting. The house is beautiful, feels warm and clean!!! We carried two boxes of fire wood for camp fire, to us surprise, the host provide the gas fire pit. Before we left, we spent some time to clean the house, left the blue tooth speaker and a cowboy hat at the house, they called me to find out how to mail to us.
We will definitely return, we spent the July 4th holiday at this house to have a wonderful memory

Thank you so much for the wonderful remarks. All of you were a delight to have staying in the home I was born and raised in and we look forward to your return.
This is the quintessential farm house experience. House was clean, ac, and cable tv which sometimes you don't get in a farm house. We stay at airbnb's all the time and this is the best
