About Carol Kaurish
I (Carol) grew up in this home. The home was built in 1954. My family farmed the land and the property is still owned by myself and two brothers. We will be glad to share with you stories about growing up in the area in the late 1940's to the present. The house sits on approximately 3 acres of land with many maple shade trees and a nice creek running through the property. The neighbors are friendly and most are my friends who grew up with me. I live on a farm which is located on Limestone Drive with my husband. We are both retired but we enjoy doing lots of volunteering. Also, we have 5 wonderful grandchildren which live nearby and 1 wonderful grandchild which lives in Hi. My husband grew up in Cold Springs, Ky. across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Why Carol Kaurish chose Abingdon
I have decorated the house to reflect the 1950's and 1960's. This home looks like Mother's when I was growing up and is very comfortable. It is a home where children can roam inside and outside with very nice neighbors. The place is quite and tranquil. You can sit on the deck and read a book while enjoying the beautiful mountains. Also, you can watch the fire flies at night and the many birds during the day. The surroundings are very peaceful and quite. In the evening build a fire in the fire pit (roast marshmallows & hot dogs) and have a picnic on the picnic table. When the sun goes down and night falls enjoy gazing at the beautiful moon and stars. Also, take a walk whenever, lots of room to wander and children to play. Just plan on coming here to relax and have a good time with whoever travels with you. Three acre of land to roam about.
What makes this house unique
Beautiful rural countryside surrounded by mountains and forest. River and lake nearby which is great for boating and fishing. Spectacular and famous (Applachian Trail, Creeper Trail) to go hiking and bicycle riding. Old country stores, replica of the Alvarado Train Station, beautiful fields with cattle grazing, sheep, and goats. Also, enjoy shopping at the Abingdon Farmer's Market for fresh produce grown locally. We have several different festivals going on through the year. Hungary Mother Park, Backbone Rock Park, Bristol Caverns, and Hidden Valley Lake (this lake sits on top of a mountain). You can use a paddle boat but not a boat with a motor. It is very unique and different.
The house has lots of room with the 4 bedrooms and basement. Lots of people enjoy walking around on the 3 acres of land and children love to roam. Also in the basement is your laundry room and a place to hang your fishing equipment, park your bicycles, coolers, etc. Lots of room. Another thing that children or teenagers enjoy is the room downstairs with 2 double beds plus a very unique and different closet. They have referred to this as their own pad. I have found in the closet a pillow and a sham where some little fellow has taken a nap. It was so sweet and brings back lots of memories of my growing up years.
The reason I named it Alvarado Vacation Home is that I want everyone to feel like this is their home away from home. All the leisure of home but not having to clean but just having a lot of fun. A good place also for a homecoming or get together with family who might live in the area.
Just check us out.

Very clean and completely furnished for cooking . Quiet neigehborhood and easy access to stores. Left a day early to go home and later received a refund for the extra day I had paid for even tho I did not expect the refund. If I come there again for a visit I will definitely rent that house again if it is avail . There were 6 adults and 2 teens an we had plenty of space.

Very comfortable home. We had 8 family members staying. Carol and Fred were wonderful hosts and went out of their way to meet all needs. Would highly recommend.

Me and my family had a really great time. The hosts were excellent and the house was the cleanest rental I've ever stayed in. My kids and grand kids loved the place and were able to play in the yard safely. The house is about a 20 minute drive from Damascus and the Creeper trail but it's worth it. We will try to rent this house again when we go back to the area.

We had a wonderful time in September staying here with our 3 kids. There was plenty of room for all of us and we were only 2 quiet country miles from the Alvarado station of the Creeper Trail. The home was fully equipped and very clean. Carol was so welcoming! We hope to be back again next year.

We enjoyed our stay at this house very much! Carol went out of her way to help us feel welcomed and at home. The house is beautiful, well stocked, very comfortable, and super quiet. It's in a great location for a get-away and is located between Abingdon and Damascus/Creeper Trail. We rode the Creeper Trail during the day and had dinner in Abingdon-- the best of both places! We are looking forward to staying here again and I've already told 3 friends about it!

My 2 sisters, a friend and I stayed at Carol's house for a long weekend during Abingdon's Highlands Arts Festival and had a great time. The house is fully stocked with kitchen ware, fluffy towels/washcloths and good beds/mattresses. It was very homey and cosy and most importantly, CLEAN. Each of us had our own bedroom - one is in the basement - and the living room and kitchen/dining area was perfect for relaxing. We didn't cook any but made coffee/tea, etc. and warmed up some things in the microwave but the kitchen was well-stocked.
The house is out of town just a few miles but the country out that way is beautiful. The only caution I have is to be mindful that it IS in the mountains and the road the house is on is a typical narrow winding road.
Carol and Fred are the nicest people and will make you feel right at home!
