This home is in a beautiful location and convenient to Monticello, Charlottesville, Staunton, numerous wineries, and the Shenandoah Parkway. Something for everyone- historic sites, antique and other shopping, hiking, gorgeous scenery, wine tasting..... The weather was cool when we were there so we were not able to enjoy the porch area but did see deer in the yard most nights. Kitchen is quite well equipped if you want to cook and Harris Teeter is nearby for groceries.

The cottage was clean and had everything I needed. But the best part was the surrounding springtime woods and views. It was quiet and comfortable. I will be back!

The Afton cottage is "tucked in" and the owner respects your privacy. They thought of EVERYTHING you can imagine....You want for nothing....I would give it ten stars if I could.

Best place to stay to retreat from the fast-paced world. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful and comfortable!! We loved the accommodations and the location. We plan on returning very soon. Owner, Dick Bell, lives a few homes away but gave us complete privacy. Just nice to know the owner was close by if there were any issues - which there weren’t.

Really enjoyed our stay at Afton cottage--the cottage itself was well maintained and very comfortable. It was close to all of the local attractions and in a beautiful area of rolling hills and farmland. Highly recommended.

This home was perfect for our family weekend getaway to Virginia. It was very clean and had everything we needed so we felt like we were at home from the moment we arrived. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of dishware and appliances. The beds were super comfortable and afforded us all a good nights sleep. The home has a beautiful view and is private, yet the location is extremely convenient to Shenandoah National Park and Charlottesville. We loved being able to bring our family dog and he enjoyed exploring the yard. We could tell that the homeowners give great attention to detail in caring for the home and providing a wonderful experience for their guests. They have a binder in the home that gives detailed information on the house and surrounding area, which we referenced for dining out and were not disappointed. This home definitely gets 5+ stars and we would happily return here again!

Afton Cottage is a beautiful, quiet, comfortable cottage in the foothills. The house itself is set up well for a long stay. The kitchen has all of the equipment you might need and there are plenty of books and puzzles to keep you occupied if you decide to stay in. We ventured out to wineries and peach orchards and some of the historic sites that surround Charlottesville. We had a wonderful time and the cottage was perfect!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week and the Fall colors and weather were excellent. The "book" created by Dick Bell, advising everything to know about the house, area, things to do, places to eat, etc was extremely detailed and helpful. Charlottesville is very close, with lots to see and do, and just staying cozy was just as much of a vacation as I wanted. I hope to return!

This is the perfect getaway for a couple or two. We visited wineries, orchards and Sherando Lake. There is tons to do in the area and the accommodations couldn't be nicer.

Comfortable, roomy house in a perfect, beautiful, quiet setting. On a quiet back road, but close enough to the main roads. Lots to see and do in the area. We saw more wildlife right outside the cottage than we did anywhere else. A herd of deer comes through a couple of times a day, we were visited one morning by a black bear, and our game camera captured night pictures of a fox and possum. The cottage has a great handbook full of info on the house itself as well as local attractions and restaurants. Dick is a perfect host.
