We can't say enough wonderful things about our stay at Snug Harbor. From the moment we were greeted by the friendly staff, to the last moments of our weekend getaway, we enjoyed every aspect. The views are amazing and every little detail was thought of to ensure we had a great time. Comfy beds, too. We will be back for sure - our new favorite place to stay!

We were welcomed by sun, sand and palm trees along with a very nice staff of Snug Harbor. The whole 4 night stay was outstanding, nice, clean waterfront accomodations with fully eqipped kitchen and comfy beds, well maintained establishment full of fun outdoor activities and the location was definately the best on the island. Throughout our stay we biked all over the island and Snug Harbor location is really unbeatable. This is the only hotel overlooking National Park and the marshland where the wild Chincoteague ponies like to be. You can see ponies straight from the premises across the water and if you want to get closer there are kayaks, boats, SUPs for rent and they also do guided tours on boats and kayaks ( we did both, one with Capt. John on a pontoon boat and one with Basia on kayaks!, both straight from Snug Harbor and both worth every penny). We saw ponies from very close, a lot of different birds including oystercatchers and bald eagle, turtles, plus quite a few dolphins swimming right along with the boat. We did our trip in September which I would recommend based on how nice and quiet it was and the weather was nice too. We would love to come back every fall! :)

My husband and I along with our two beagles (9 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old) went for the weekend last week and we were NOT disappointed! From the moment we checked in until we checked out we were thrilled at our clean the cottage was and how much there is to actually do on the island. Captain John took us on two boat tours and not only did we see the wild ponies but we saw dolphins! We already booked our trip for next July to watch the Pony Swim and we know that we will NOT be disappointed. They are so accommodating I would 100% recommend everyone checks this place out. Basia is so sweet and easy to work with - we changed a few of our plans and they had no issues with any of it - we learned so much about the history of the island and all the wildlife we saw.
The sandbar - what a cool spot! The pups are allowed on that beach and they loved it too!
Do not be discouraged that this is off the beaten path...that's what makes it so amazing!

My husband and I first visited Snug Harbor a year ago with our Golden Retriever, and after our second visit a couple of weeks ago, we plan to make it an annual tradition for our anniversary! The laid back atmosphere coupled with the super friendly staff readily greet you upon your arrival. It is a perfect place to kayak, paddleboard, take a sunset cruise and just relax on your front porch overlooking the water. The casual, quiet, and simple ambiance is the ideal combination to wash the stresses of high tech living away! It would be a great spiritual retreat as well! Highly recommend!

We visited as a group of 8. The owners were absolutely amazing. We could sit and talk with them like family. The location was perfect. Everything we needed was right there. The boys loved crabbing at the dock as well as kayaking and standup paddle boarding. The trolley stops when you flag them so you have access to almost anywhere you want to go. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. Don’t forget to get a boat ride. We will be back again.

Paradise!! We just loved it. We had two cottages, one for us, one for our daughter who met us there. We loved the cottages as soon as we walked in. Very, very clean, decorated so nice and beachy! So roomy and so nice to have everything you need if you want to cook. Or just to have a kitchen table to eat at. We loved being able to bring our dog, she loved getting in the water. Our daughter took a kayak tour in the morning and had an awesome time, they got to see the horses up close. You can see the water from your front step of the cottage. So relaxing to sit on their dock and watch the seagulls, egrets, see the horses in the distance, a view of the lighthouse where ever you are on the property. The owners, Basia and John, make you feel right at home. They are so friendly and helpful and nice to chat with. So many different kinds of seating on the dock, table and chairs, lounge chairs to lay in the sun, sand and palm trees everywhere and caribbean music playing, tiki huts. Absolute heaven!! We will definitely be back. So much to do if you want to, such as boat tours, rent kayaks, or if you want to just sit and relax and enjoy the water and the view, talk to other guests or just sit and have a cup of coffee by yourself. You wouldn't even need to leave Snug Harbor, you could just sit there your whole vacation! We were so thankful to find a dog friendly place to stay. Thank you Basia and John for the memorable family vacation time we had!!

We are volunteers at Mitchell Farm Equine Retirement in East Haddam, CT. Three years in a row 4-6 of us have made the trip to Chincoteague to see the ponies and would not consider staying anywhere else but Snug Harbor. Basia and John put their heart and soul into this place and are the ultimate hosts! This year we had 2 cottages for 4 people and had more than enough room. Cottages are cozy, spotless and all hardwood floors! Couldn't ask for a better location to hang out on the back deck or over by the tiki bar and look across to Assateague, ponies, the lighthouse and Reggae music softly in background courtesy of John & Basia. John and Basia are very familiar with the area and are great tour guides if you take a ride on John's boat or go with Basia on a kayak tour. The best way to see the ponies is to kayak over to Assateague. If you want amusement park rides and man made excitement than Chincoteague is not for you. It's for people who enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of nature and to experience a town that has kept its charm from back in the day when "Misty" made Chincoteague famous. Snug Harbor is a gem and we can't wait to return next year!

Clean cottage at a quiet street with paranormal view of the salt marsh bay, right by the water and piers, great for fishing, boating and crabbing. Rooms are very basic, Would be nice to have coffee and creamers in the room (there is a coffee machine though). AC and fans are a bit noisy for light sleepers, other than that it's a very comfortable place to stay for a relaxing summer vacation

My friends and I had a great time in our cozy cottage across from the light house. We easily made a reservation for an eco-tour as well and the three of us had a great time soaking in the sun while kayaking around Chincoteague and learning about oysters, mussels, birds, and the wild ponies of the area. There were plenty of stars at night and reason to sit under them while the harbor breeze pushed away some of the August humidity.

The owner is very welcoming and gave us great recommendations on restaurants. The boat tour with Capt. John was the best! We were fortunate enough to see the wild ponies several times. We’ll definitely be back!!
